Masses Bagels, Fitzroy
ArbArch was engaged for the concept design for Masses Bagels in Fitzroy—transforming a former restaurant into a space that feels equal parts cafe, industrial workshop and neighbourhood hangout.
The interior champions raw, utilitarian materials—steel, plywood, and concrete—paired with clean lines and subtle detailing. A long communal table anchors the space, surrounded by custom stools and open room to perch and wait for takeaway. At the rear, a rolling table and semi-open kitchen keep the act of making bagels visible—placing process and transparency at the centre of the experience.
The design resists trend in favour of honest utility and endurance. Stainless steel benches, exposed brickwork and minimal shelving create a restrained backdrop for the vibrancy of the food—and the occasional splash of colour from curated art, sculptural flowers and hand-made lighting pieces.
